Sheffield Launches First Comprehensive Plan Survey In Two Decades
DATELINE — SHEFFIELD
Sheffield is asking residents to help rewrite two of its foundational planning documents for the first time in more than 20 years, with a new online survey that opened this month and runs through early November.
TOWN HALL
The Town of Sheffield has launched a survey to inform updates to both its Comprehensive (Master) Plan and its Open Space and Recreation Plan, according to Bushnell-Sage Library, which is hosting the effort alongside the town. Officials say the plans, last refreshed more than two decades ago, will guide town policy, investment and land-use decisions over the next 10 to 20 years, and the Open Space plan also keeps Sheffield eligible for state recreation grants.
The survey opened September 11 and stays open through November 6, takes about 25 minutes and collects only IP addresses for confidentiality, town officials said. Residents can complete it online or pick up a paper copy at the library, and those who leave contact information will get updates as the planning process continues.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
Bushnell-Sage Library has kicked off 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a new early-literacy program that tracks reading with young children toward a goal of 1,000 books, with re-reads and books read by relatives or teachers all counting toward the total. Families can sign up in person at the library.
The library also has a new art-supply swap in its lobby: the "Sheffield Saves Art Swap Cabinet," set up through the Bushnell-Sage Library Trustees and the Sheffield Select Board, where residents can drop off or pick up paper, poster board, paint, markers and other craft materials for classroom or personal use. Separately, the library is now offering free wireless printing from patrons' own devices, funded through the state's Municipal Digital Equity Implementation Program, and continues to offer free one-on-one digital skills trainings for Sheffield residents of any age through contact Rene Wood.
