School Committee approves 2026-27 meeting calendar in 7-1 vote
School Committee · Meeting of June 11, 2026
SHEFFIELD — Southern Berkshire schools face uproar over a blank line on a budget chart and an unexplained $2.5 million gap. New Marlboro Central School parent Kristen Mallory told the regional school committee "there are seven school days left this year" and children risk losing their classroom with no warning, after a packet chart projected zero third-grade school-choice seats there for FY27. Superintendent Dr.
Ricca said no final decision has been made and five students remain on the roster for third grade next year. Separately, member Kim flagged a roll-forward report suggesting a roughly $2.5 million year-end surplus despite earlier staff layoffs, prompting Sandisfield resident Kevin Fish to call it "shocking" during public comment, with no district business manager on hand to explain the figures. The committee approved its 2026-27 meeting calendar 7-1, with member Carl abstaining, moving its August session to Aug. 20, and approved a $2,500 transition stipend for incoming business administrator Myers.
Three of the district's five towns hold special town meetings on the budget within the next two weeks.
