School Committee Approves Treasurer Contract, Superintendent Vacation Rollover
School Committee · Meeting of June 22, 2026
SHEFFIELD — Southern Berkshire school panel warns a failed budget vote could block staff from returning to work. Meeting two days before town votes began on the fiscal 2027 regional budget, the School Committee said state guidance confirmed a fallback "1/12" contingency budget could not use one-time funds like School Choice revenue or reserves to restore roughly eight eliminated positions. Superintendent Brian Riccio called it "a blunt instrument designed to keep the lights on." Members approved a $17,680 treasurer contract with Kami Lamica and voted 6-2-1 to let Riccio roll over 9.5 vacation days instead of a $6,832.69 payout.
Members also corrected an earlier claim of a $2.5 million surplus, calling it a misread snapshot. Committee member Bonnie, after 13.5 years, announced her resignation effective July 1.
