SHEFFIELD -- April 21, 2026, Sheffield Select Board denies Verizon door-to-door solicitation permit and advances Kelsey Road bridge project. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to reject Verizon's application for a door-to-door sales permit, with Chair Rhonda citing the town's longstanding policy against such solicitation and member Patrick noting he had opposed a similar request previously; residents may still contact Verizon directly for its new Fios fiber service. The board also adopted an order of layout for Kelsey Road under MGL Chapter 82, a state-required procedural step for the replacement of bridge S-10-015, over a resident's objection that the engineering plan was too small to read. In personnel action, the board unanimously appointed Timothy James Harrigan and Jack O'Donnell as van drivers pending background checks and training, accepted resignations from two police officers and one highway employee, and named Megan Smith to the Agricultural Commission. The chair announced that the May 4 Annual Town Meeting warrant, 25 articles, contains no school budget article, with a special town meeting planned for June after all five regional district towns agreed to delay while the school reconciles its books.
